2016/09/13 Reading in the original language

I am a philospher of clinical psychology.

There is a man who introduced himself to me as a philosopher of psychiatry but told me that what he wanted to do was actually the philosophy of clinical psychology.

He is an excellent philospher. That I won't deny.  But it seems that he usually reads books about philosophy in Japanese. That is, he read only those books which were written originally in the native language of the authors but translated into Japanese.

The philosopher I want to be is the one with the ability to read in the original language.  This capacity is to me one of the prerequisites to be a professional professor.

I am now in the habit of spending at least an hour studying German with a view to reading Heidegger's Time and Being in German. I don't know when I will accomplish it, but I will. Definitely.
